Some great points here Ross. Quite frankly I'd label this as Social Media 101. There are many people out there still that simply don't get social media. It's either because someone told them that it's a necessity or they're caught up in all the hype. A solid understanding of social media can bring tremendous amount of value to your brand. Extremely well crafted!

Often people are a little too sensitive. I'm no fan of dreads but like I said I've heard comments about the non "clean" cut hair styles. There's a big natural hair movement building in the African American community so I understand how it can be viewed as a little offensive. When it comes down too it I think it's more of a personal taste issue of what you like and don't like.

On offensive or not, folks need to get a clue.
Clean shaven has long been equated with civilized.

As regards dreads etc, that's a matter of personal taste. I think unruly hair is unruly hair and that's easy enough to see regardless of a longer hair style, more trimmed one or a fro.

Further, what the hell people? Can't believe folks have time to worry over an ad.

This was more of a rank that too a life of it's own after a Twitter post. The problem is this problem is more widespread than most may think. LinkedIn is so much more than just a static site. I've been booked for speaking gigs and other consulting work directly from my profile showing up on LinkedIn. I have friends that have gotten interviews that resulted in jobs based on their profiles and being found in a search. It's not just about the people in your network but about expanding your connections beyond your circle of influence.

I wouldn't expect anyone I know in the St. Louis social scene to resort to tricks to try and boost their rankings but I had to let people know this type of thing is going on. Thanks for your comment.
